The fleeing dwarven warband was headed towards a mountainous region,
but by dint of superior scouting and a forced night march, Captain
Ildariks detachment caught them in the foothills. Realizing they
couldn't run, the dwarves deployed for battle.
In the center, two units of dwarven heavy infantry advance on the
double, supported by a cannon and a unit of quarrelers. The advancing
infantry gets in the way of the cannon on the first turn, but after
that its shooting improves a bit, compared to last game - at least it
reliably fires this time! The
hammerers bear the brunt of the elvish shooting, and, surprisingly,
panic before getting halfway across the field. This leaves the
axe-wielding warriors to face the sleet of arrows - they grunt, and
grimly trot forward.
When the axe warriors unit reach charge range, it is much diluted.
It is pre-emptively charged by two units of seaguard, and breaks.
Remarkably, they fleeing dwarves outruns both units of seaguard,
bringing the battle into the middle of the field and leaving the
archery formations in the elven backfield somewhat at a loss for
targets.
In the dwarven backfield, the silver helms charges the flame cannon,
breaks and runs down the crew, and make a U-turn heading for the
backside of the quarrelers and regrouping hammerers. Much furious
maneuvering ensues, concluding with the quarrelers being charged,
broken and run down by the silver helms.
The fleeing warriors are charged again in the center of the field,
but only by one unit of seaguard - they get in each others way,
unfortunately. Again, the warriors break, and outruns the
pursuing elves. This time the warriors flee straight through the
unit of hammerers, but they are intent on maneuvering to catch the
silver helms behind them, and barely blink.
Game concludes with the dwarven force severely mauled, with very
limited elven casualties.
