Patrol: Dark Eldar vs Tyranids
Played Dec. 6, 2007. Battle report by Stephan (Splinter fleet
Black Tide).
Setup faced a squad of Warriors (with two Splinter Cannons and two
Blasters), accompanied by a squad of Wyches, with a leader, and
accompanied by a Haemunculus, against my three Tyranid broods of
nine Termagants, supported by a brood of six carapace genestealers and
led by a Warrior brood with two Deathspitters and a Venom Cannon (with
Enchances Senses, carapace and Toxin sacs).
On the first turn, the gaunts charged forward, while the Warriors
hugged terrain and the Genestealers
stayed out of sight. The Eldar warriors cut down 5 gaunts in one brood
(not very good shooting) with splinter fire, and advanced the Wyches.
The Wyches charged the advance gaunts, and while the occasional Wych
fell, it was clear that he gaunts would
lose - but held by Synapse, they stayed fighting nevertheless, holding
the Wyches in position...
... while another brood of Gaunts pinned the Warriors in close combat
long enough to let the Genestealers arrive unscathed. The Warriors died
quickly, and the two survivors fled for their
lives, whereupon the Tyranids all consolidated into the Wych close
combat.
There was no more firefighting, everyone was engulfed in the melee.
Even the Genestealers were defeated by the Wyches close combat prowess
- rending attacks
mostly saved by their inhuman acrobatics. In the end, the Tyranid
warriors entered the fray, and through sheer mass of attacks managed to
bring down the last Wyches.
